Menu Plan 9/1/08

Good news! I stayed in the grocery budget for August. I felt like we ate well, too. Now the next goal: to make it another month within the budget.

So, even though it is a new month already, I am going to see how little I can shop this week. Just for fun. See shopping list following the menu.

Breakfasts:
Healthy Baked Oatmeal w/ milk (see tip in the comments)
Bananas

Lunches:
PB&J Sandwiches
Tortilla Chips & Salsa
Carrots
Cantelope

Dinners:
M - Chicken & Cheese Quesadillas, Salad
T - Leftovers
W - Baked Chicken Sandwich (This is a new casserole I am going to try. I'll let you know.), Salad
Th - Leftovers
F - Tomato and Beef Stromboli, Fresh Green Beans
S - Leftovers
S - Waffles, Fruit

Ok, here is the plan. I know I will need to do a big shopping soon, but I am going to try to wait a little longer, first. Here is my list for this week:

(I am only buying the first 3 items below because they are on an exceptional sale. The pop is to have on hand for football season for when we go to our friends' house. The sugar I will use for baking. And the frozen pizza - well - that's for simplicity's sake.)

Pop - 3 @ $.59 ea.
Sugar - 1 @ $.99 (4 lb. ea.)
Frozen Pizza - 2 @ $1.99 ea.
Green Beans - 3 lb. @ $.99/lb.
Cantelope - 2@ $1.88 ea.
Bananas - 3 lb. @ $.44/lb.
24 Hour Allergy Meds - 1 (45 count) @ $9.99
Oatmeal - 1 @ $1.69

Total = about $30, including tax

I made the Baked Oatmeal this morning, taking out most of the sugar and no one liked it. :( Also I think it might be too dry with 100% applesauce - try doing half applesauce and half oil/butter or 3/4 applesauce and 1/4 of the oil/butter. I think it needs the fat to keep it flavorful. Just wanted to save you from making a bum recipe! I liked it - and will now be eating it every day this week b/c my husband and kids won't touch it!

Thanks for visiting my blog! Definately try the pizza pockets! So worth the effort.

I'm going to try that waffle recipe on my new waffle maker! Thanks!
