We had taco salad tonight, and I made my own taco seasoning for the meat. I had seen the recipe at Passionate Homemaking and had been wanting to try it. Taco seasoning at Aldi is so cheap and easy, but it does contain MSG, which we try to avoid. We thought Lindsay's taco seasoning was great. I didn't use all of it, so that is nice that I can save it and not have to make it again the next time I need it!
Here is her recipe:
Taco-Seasoning Mix
This works splendidly for seasoning up refried beans and fajitas or any Mexican dish!
6 tsp chili powder
4 ½ tsp cumin
5 tsp paprika
3 tsp onion powder
2 ½ tsp garlic powder
1/8 – ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
Mix all the ingredients, and store in an air-tight container. The homemade mix is twice as strong as the store-bought one, so add only half as much.

How funny! I had just tried a very similar recipe that I read on a blog as well. I used it last week for our Taco Salad & really liked it. No more buying the seasoning packet for me!!
Thanks for the recipe. Made a taco salad, using purchased taco seasoning mix and found it too salty. No MSG, but the salt is still with me, two days later! Looking forward to a not-so-salty version!
Thanks, again.
