Heirloom Tomato Plants

My husband is the landscaper/gardener in the family. I love the outdoors and appreciate the yard looking clean and neat, for sure. I am just not into making more work for myself by having to take care of more stuff. So, he pretty much does all the design and planting and upkeep, and I cheer him on. :)

So, I was pretty groud of myself (and he was, too) for planting a few urns of petunias this past spring for our back patio. They are doing well, so far. My husband does have to remind me to water them, though.

I also decided I wanted to plant a low-maintenance garden. I decided to try pots. I love fresh tomatoes and heard they were relatively easy to grow. I had a Lowe's giftcard to spend and was thrilled when I saw these heirloom brandywine tomato plants. I planted them in some buckets that other shrubs came in that I decided to reuse. We'll see how they do...

Just to show you how lazy I sometimes am, I read all about Lindsay's tomato plant tips, but haven't tried any of them... except I did try to plant the plants really deep... they have just grown a lot already! They get a lot of sun. Looks like I desperately need to stake or cage them.

If you aren't already familiar with heirloom plants, you can read more about their importance in protecting biodiversity here. I may not get as many tomatoes, but I am going for quality, not quantity. I'll keep you posted!
