Breastfeeding Aid

Any males, you probably don’t want to read any further – unless you have a newborn at home.

Yeah, I used props. Nipple shields. I have heard so many people give these a bad rap, that I just had to come to their defense.

My daughter was early and was not able to latch on to breastfeed. Since it was critical that she maintain her weight she received supplemental bottles from the beginning at the hospital. As beneficial as this was, it made latching on even more difficult.

I really wanted to breastfeed her, but had it not been for my mother researching, going out and buying these, and insisting that I try them, I probably would have given up.

Thank goodness for mom!

I used them exclusively for the first 2 months. Yes, they were a annoying to use, but I was just so glad to be able to breastfeed. One day, when my daughter was 2 months old, I tried without, and she nursed on, no problem. I happily put the nipple shields away, but they still hold a special place in my heart. They worked wonders for me. So don’t go dissing them!
