This is a nostalgic recipe for me. It was a tradition for Abbe's mom to make this when we used to have sleepovers. She graciously shared the recipe with all us girls, now off on our own. It is a sweet, dense cake with crumbly topping, filled with gooey chocolate chips. The combo of chocolate chips, cinnamon, and brown sugar is yummy. I made it once for my little sister and she later requested it for her graduation brunch. This week I made it for a dessert for my husband and me.
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
3 cups flour
1 T. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup brown sugar
12 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
1 tsp. cinnamon
Cream butter. Gradually add sugar. Add eggs one at a time, and beat after each. In a separate bowl, combine four, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Alternately add flour mixture and sour cream to butter mixture, beginning and ending with flour mixture.* In a separate bowl, combine chocolate chips, cinnamon, and brown sugar.
In a greased 9x13 pan, layer half the batter, then half the chocolate chip mixuture, then remaining batter, and the remaining chocolate chip mix. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. Do not overbake.
*Do it like the recipe says and add things one at a time, etc.
